What this service does
LinkedIn Scam Checker is a community-powered tool that lets anyone look up how many times a LinkedIn profile or company page has been reported for scamming, harassment, or inappropriate behaviour. It is available as a website and a Chrome extension.
Data we collect
- LinkedIn profile URL — the URL you look up or report.
- Report reason — the text you submit when reporting a profile.
- IP address — collected on report submission to prevent abuse and enforce rate limits. Not shared publicly.
- Email address and LinkedIn account — collected if you sign in via Clerk to submit a report. Used only for rate limiting and duplicate detection.
Data we do NOT collect
- We do not collect browsing history.
- We do not track clicks, keystrokes, or mouse movements.
- We do not collect any financial or health information.
- We do not use cookies for advertising or tracking.
Chrome extension
The extension reads the URL and visible text of LinkedIn profile pages solely to extract the profile identifier and follower count. This data is not stored. It is used only to fetch the report count from our API and display the widget. No page content is transmitted to any third party.
How we use data
- To display community report counts on LinkedIn profiles.
- To prevent spam and abuse via rate limiting (5 reports/day, 10/week per account and IP).
- To detect duplicate reports from the same user or network.
Data sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties. Report reasons are stored in our database and are only displayed publicly in aggregate (report count) or as anonymised comments after a profile reaches a minimum report threshold.
Data retention
Reports are retained indefinitely to maintain the integrity of the community database. If you believe a report about you is false, contact us and we will review it.
